Coping with chronic pain can be a challenge for both people suffering with pain as well as those who love and live with them. It's important to understand what are scientifically effective coping strategies for people in pain, as well as knowing what works for you as an individual.

Dr. Keefe informs us about the current science on coping with chonic pain and provides some practical tips which you can add to your toolkit for living well with chronic pain.

Francis J. Keefe, PhD

Dr. Keefe is an award-winning Professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, psychology and neuroscience, anesthesiology, and medicine at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. He is one of the leading experts on coping skills for chronic pain  He is a longtime section Editor for PAIN, is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pain, has written more than 300 peer-reviewed papers, and has written for or edited more than 60 books. He is interested in the assessment and treatment of pain disorders - in particular individual, couples-based and group approaches -  and internet and mobile electronic approaches to delivering pain coping skills training and cognitive behavior therapy.   The primary aim of his research over the past year has been to study the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy for arthritis pain.
