Catastrophizing

Self-Management Resources Work Accommodation Information  Related WWDPI Webinars

Catastrophizing is one of the thinking traps that can contribute to anxiety and depression. It is when we imagine the worst possible thing is about to happen and think that we will be unable to cope with it.

Pain-related catastrophizing is an exaggerated, negative thinking and emotional perspective on future pain, during actual or anticipated pain. It has direct impact on a person's behaviour, functional ability, and quality of living. Research of pain catastrophizing has also found that catastrophic thinking can result in a more intense experience of pain.
